Etnologi (från grekiskans ethnos, folk, och logia, vetenskap, med andra ord: läran om folk) är studiet av människor som kulturvarelser i grupp. Termen etnologi introducerades av naturforskaren och arkeologen Sven Nilsson (1787-1883). När etnologi introducerades som ett universitetsämne benämndes det som nordisk och jämförande folklivsforskning.
